How It Started
Antons grew up in suburban Rīga where his family had a proper garden. He thought that was just how things worked — you wanted fresh vegetables, you grew them. Then came apartment living in his early twenties, and the realization hit: no garden meant no homegrown produce. That wasn't acceptable.
He started experimenting with containers on his balcony. First attempts were rough. Plants died. Tomatoes froze. Herbs got leggy and weak. But he kept testing — trying different container materials, different plant varieties, different winterization methods. Gradually, things started working.
After finishing his horticulture degree at the Latvia University of Life Sciences, Antons spent 8 years at the Rīga Botanical Garden managing their container programs. He conducted extensive research on frost-resistant varieties, tested cold-hardiness of different plant combinations, and developed protocols specifically for Baltic conditions.

He maintains experimental gardens across Rīga's different neighborhoods, documenting what works where.
